Book Review: Xenocide
Okay, I’m officially off the Ender’s Game series now. This was the third book in the series, following the “ok” Speaker for the Dead, and before Orson Scott Card wrote Ender’s Shadow. This one takes place many years after Ender Wiggins arrives on Lusitania, as the inhabitants of that world (the humans, the buggers, and the pequennos) await destruction by the humans on other worlds due to a disease/virus that exists on Lusitania that could destroy the entire human population. While Ender and the humans struggle to find a way to either a) stop the fleet from destroying the planet, or b) finding a way to stop the disease, the buggers are building spaceships and are threatening to leave the planet with the disease, and the pequennos are threatening war, and xenocide by spreading the disease. In some ways this was interesting, in many others, this book was a real bore. There’s this whole part of this story surrounding some genetically altered Chinese characters on another planet who are working for the human council to destroy Lusitania… unfortunately that part of the story was extremely boring, and the logic/character development was confusing and in the end, did not make a lot of sense. The ending was also quite ridiculous, including some miraculous cloning. I was just shaking my head at how this series ends. Crap. No more of this. (1/10).
