DVD Reviews: How I met your Mother, Stick It, Step it up, American Dreamz

More movies to catch up on...

How I Met Your Mother Season 1
What an interesting find this show was… in an age where the sitcom has become almost obsolete (other than Two and a Half Men), this one was surprisingly pretty good. Doogie Howser and Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer help support a good cast in general… the story follows a single guy, Ted, and a soon-to-be-married couple who live together in New York in a small apartment, and try to find Ted a girl. He thinks he meets her in the first episode, and the rest of the season is a series of funny events that eventually lead them together. Neil Patrick Harris is fantastic in this one… simply hilarious… legendary… suit up!... he’s what Jeremy Piven is to Entourage. It started a bit slow, but overall, it’s a great show… (8/10).

Stick it
Hayley is an unlikeable girl with attitude who many years earlier screwed the US National Gymnastics team by inexplicitly leaving the competition and getting the team disqualified… she is forced back to the team and teaches them that the judging in gymnastics is silly, and in turn she learns that there’s more to life than just being a bi-atch… it’s really cheesy, but overall, still watchable… (4/10).

Step it up
Zzzzzz… inner city kid breaks into a school for the performing arts and destroys stage props, so as penance, has to do community service there… somehow it turns out he knows how to dance, and ends up being a dance partner for the class star… she needs him to help her in the final performance, he learns some lessons… boring as heck… (1/10).

American Dreamz
This one was an American Idol dark comedy, with a presidential idiocracy/Taliban twist… Hugh Grant plays a Simon Cowell-type who goes a bit too far, sleeping with a contestant (Mandy Moore), and ensuring a middle-eastern and jewish contestant get through to the Final three. President Staton (Dennis Quaid) is portrayed as a complete idiot, likely to emulate George Bush, but they went a bit too far… making a mockery of pretty much everything… this movie was very hard to watch in general… Chris Klein blows himself up with a bomb… ‘nuff said… definitely pass… (1/10).
