Raptors... What if?...
What if the Raptors had drafted the right way and not traded anyone… what would their team look like? (sorry for the non-bball-fans, gotta get all my basketball sctuff out... and hey, I actually did work for this one...)
Year, Pick, Who They Coulda had (Picked)
1995 7th Damon Stoudamire (Damon Stoudamire)
1996 2nd Kobe Bryant (Marcus Camby)
1997 9th Tracy McGrady (Tracy McGrady)
1998 4th Dirk Nowitski (Antawn Jamison)
1999 5th Shawn Marion (Jonathon Bender)
2000 21st Morris Peterson (Morris Peterson)
2001 17th Zach Randolph (Michael Bradley)
2002 20th Tayshaun Prince (Kareem Rush)
2003 4th Dwayne Wade (Chris Bosh)
2004 8th Al Jefferson (Rafael Araujo)
2005 7th N/A* (Charlie Villaneuva)
* let's give Charlie the benefit of the doubt for now...
This would have given this team a whole different look… the starting lineup would look something like this:
PG Dwayne Wade
SG Kobe Bryant
SF Tracy McGrady
PF Zach Randolph
C Dirk Nowitski
Backcourt bench: Damon Stoudamire, Morris Peterson
Frontcourt bench: Tayshaun Prince, Charlie Villaneuva, Shawn Marion, Al Jefferson
The team would probably have to had traded for a center at some point, but yipes… and there’s no way they’d have been able to stay under the cap and keep all these guys, and obviously with this team, they wouldn't have had the high draft picks they had, but hey, one can dream…

sigh....wouldn't it be nice to be proud of a Raptors team for once? 'Course, a team like this would have too many egos to work together; people wouldn't want to be benched behind whoever. What would be interesting is drafting a team with hott bench players....now THERE's a challenge for Sir Chai....!

well, i really tried to consider that when building this team... Guys like Tayshaun, MoPete, Damon & Al Jefferson are guys that would probably be ok with coming off the bench... Shawn Marion, I'm not so sure, but the other options that year (Ron Artest, Kirilenko, etc) probably wouldn't like it either... This was the best "team" I could come up with, but not necessarily the best players in each draft. Sorry, I should have cavaet-ed that...
But overall, yah... this team has way too many egos... especially with Kobe/Tracy... that would be nuts.
