DVD Review: 24 Season 3

This show just keeps going. Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) is back for another go, this time 3 years after the last season. The season opens with the threat of biological weapons from an organization that Jack had previously infiltrated in Mexico, and reveals, among other things, that Jack is addicted to heroin, his daughter, Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) is now working for CTU (Counter Terrorist Unit), and Tony Almeida, the new head of CTU, is married to Michelle. President Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) has survived the assassination attempt at the end of Season 2, and is seeking re-election for a second term. The season starts off with a bang, with a prison break, Jack going to Mexico, getting double-crossed here and there, eventually determining a different player in this biological warfare game is the real threat… another man that Jack used to work with.

This season was a bit slow at the beginning… I wasn’t sure where they were going with the plot, which at first I thought was pretty silly, but it got better as the season went along. There were a lot of cases of “There’s no way they could get there that fast” though… a lot more than in prior seasons, which made the situations improbable… for example, Tony Almeida getting shot in the head, going into surgery and then being back and running CTU in less than 6 hours… Or in the finale, another guy, gets significantly injured at a school, but is somehow in surgery at a hospital less than 10 minutes later. CTU also seems to be close to everything, as strike teams from there seem to be able to get every where in LA from there in 5 to 10 minutes.

Anyways, lots of twists and turns. Lots of action, dying, questionable ethics, and total drama… it’s a good show. Period. Oh, and Sherry Palmer is great again.... This season, was just not as good as the first two. (8/10).
