Movie Review: 300
This is CGI at its best. This $60M movie is an adaptation of Frank Miller’s comic book, which in turn, was a loose interpretation of the Battle of Thermopylae (the “hot gates”) way back in 480 A.D. Good acting? Nope… but it is visually stunning, and it’s full of good stuff – big dudes fighting, scantily clad peoples, lots of weapons and gore, etc, etc. They definitely got bang for their production buck. A cast of no-names basically and filmed in Montreal, the real value is in the action. Big scary dudes fighting bigger scarier dudes and Xerxes’s immortals, who looked more like ninjas. Xerxes looked like Jaye Davison from Stargate though, and I never knew the Hunchback of Notre Dame was a Greek… Lots of historical inaccuracies, but the gist was there… 300 Spartans fight to hold back the Persians (about a million or two of them) in a narrow corridor called Thermopylae while the rest of Sparta is engaged in the Olympics... Anyways, for the budget they had, I’m not sure they could have done much better… watch it… it's mindless, but fun... in IMAX if you can… (8/10).
