Canadian Debate, raps lose, how nerdy are you??

Yesterday was the first debate among the Canadian political leaders leading into the Canadian Election, with the four major parties represented: Paul Martin of the Liberals, Stephen Harper of the Conservatives, Jack Layton of the NDP and Gilles Duceppe of the Bloc. Based on last night's debate, I think there was no winner, and that we are all going to be losers in this one. Harper and his Tories have somehow taken the lead in the Polls, which is ridiculous to me in many ways - he's looking to Americanize things, made comments about joining the US, is somewhat racist, anti-gay, and his fiscal planning will bury this country in so much debt and drive us into a recession. Duceppe clearly didn't want to be in an English debate, and Jack Layton was out of his league too. Martin, despite the recent Liberal scandals, seems to be the lesser of four evils... at least he can run a government responsibly, and has done a lot of good things for Canada. He vociferated strongly that he was about uniting Canada, and being proud of all things Canadian, which I think was a good message, rather than trying to break away (like Duceppe) or joining the US (like Harper was suggesting). Anyways, just my own view. I just have no confidence in Stephen Harper as this country's prime minister, and frankly would be quite embarassed for us if he is. We'll no longer be able to joke with our American counterparts about Bush getting re-elected.

The Raps, as predicted, fell back again yesterday, losing to Chicago... They had some fight, but really looked bad for 30 minutes or so. So much for the momentum they were building... they still have a weak schedule coming up, so hopefully they can stop the bleeding... Some odd coaching in this one, as Mitchell played his vets for almost the entire game, instead of guys like Joey Graham, who were very effective early on... the Vets were clearly worn out by game's end.
