DVD Reviews: Bobby, The Queen, Capote

Hmph... a biography theme this time...

Bobby
Emilio Estevez put together an all-star cast… Demi & Ashton, Rollergirl, Pacey Whitter, Helen Hunt, Larry “Morpheus” Fishburne, Hannibal Lecter, Even Steven, William H. Macy, Sharon Stone, Frodo Baggins, Christian Slater and even Lindsay Lohan… too bad this one turned out to be just a complete mish-mash which all happens to happen on the day RFK gets assassinated at the Ambassador Hotel… unlikeable characters, pointless plotlines… the film was well-made using real historical footage, but unfortunately that doesn’t save the pointlessness of the film. It’s 2 hours of pretty good film-making, but bad story… which makes it a bad movie. (2/10).

The Queen
Helen Mirran stars as the Queen in a great drama showing how they struggle with the politics surrounding Princess Diana’s death. Mirran does a fantastic job and was deserving as the 2007 Oscar winner. This was a fascinating film that really showed how silly people ended up getting over Princess Di, and told the other side of the story from the Royal Family’s perspective. Great film. (8/10).

Capote
Truman Capote (Phillip Seymour Hoffman), a writer for the NewYorker, follows the story of a murder of a Kansis family, and becomes connected to one of the murderers, who is eventually executed for his crimes… I always heard Capote’s name, but never exactly knew who he was… watching this movie, I don’t think it really matters… not a significant historical figure, which made the movie less compelling. Hoffman, I’m sure acted just like Capote did, but his voice was just too disturbingly effeminate… it’s a critc’s movie… not for a normal audience… or for me… (2/10).
